A Chicago rapper known as Cloutboii Meechie has recently been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot while driving on the West Side of the city. The victim, a 24-year-old man, sought medical attention at Humboldt Park Health Center with a gunshot wound to his face on October 22nd. He recounted to authorities that he was waiting at a stoplight on the 5200 block of West Chicago Avenue when he was shot.
Surveillance footage obtained from a nearby liquor store captured a brief verbal altercation between the victim and another individual in the parking lot. As the victim drove away in his Nissan Rogue, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots towards the victim and other vehicles in the vicinity.
Investigators later identified the suspected gunman as Demetrius Lewis, who goes by the nickname Clout and operates an Instagram account under the handle cloutboiimeechie. Lewis, who has a prior armed robbery conviction from 2020 and a juvenile adjudication for armed robbery, now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Following a court hearing, Judge Antara Rivera ordered him to be detained pending trial.
This case highlights the dangerous consequences of gun violence in the city and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. It also underscores the role of surveillance technology and witness cooperation in identifying suspects and bringing them to justice. As the legal proceedings unfold, it is crucial to support the efforts of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
