The Television Academy is shaking things up this year by announcing two major Emmy categories earlier than usual. Instead of waiting for the official announcement ceremony, the outstanding reality competition program and outstanding talk series categories will be revealed live on CBS Mornings at 4:47 a.m. PT / 7:47 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 15.

This departure from tradition is a new approach for the Television Academy, mirroring tactics used by other award shows like the Daytime Emmys and the Grammys. The early announcement will add an element of excitement and anticipation for fans and nominees alike.

Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego will be joined by presenters Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song to announce the remaining major categories during the official ceremony at 8:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. ET, streamed live from the Academy’s Wolf Theatre.

The reality competition category is expected to be highly competitive this year, with popular shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Traitors,” “The Amazing Race,” and “Survivor” vying for a nomination. The talk series category is also heating up, with established hits like “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Daily Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” facing off against newcomers like “Hot Ones,” “Everybody’s in L.A. with John Mulaney,” and “Have I Got News for You.”

The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and will be broadcast live on Sunday, September 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS. Viewers can also stream the awards show live and on demand via select packages on Paramount+.
