Grant Hardin, also known as the “Devil in the Ozarks,” has been transferred to the Varner SuperMax prison in Arkansas after escaping from a nearby facility. He was recaptured after a two-week search in the mountains of northern Arkansas, just 1.5 miles northwest of the prison. Despite efforts to track him using drones, bloodhounds, and a helicopter, the search was hindered by high water levels in the area.

Residents of Calico Rock were surprised to learn that Hardin had remained in the vicinity. Hardin, a convicted killer, had been serving time at the Calico Rock prison since 2017. He escaped by impersonating a corrections officer and walking out of the facility through a secure gate.

Hardin’s capture brought relief to his victims and their families, who had been living in fear during his time on the run. He is now being transferred to the Varner SuperMax prison, known for its high-security measures and housing high-risk prisoners.
