Red Animation Studios Expands to Tenerife, Canary Islands
Red Animation Studios has recently made a significant announcement regarding the opening of its newest facility, Red Canarias, situated in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on the Spanish Canary Islands. This expansion marks a pivotal moment in the studio’s 20-year journey and reinforces its presence in the European animation market.
Having established studios in Lima, Peru, the addition of Red Canarias provides Red Animation Studios with a strategic foothold in the Canary Islands. This region is increasingly becoming a hub for film and animation production due to its well-developed infrastructure, experienced bilingual talent pool, and attractive fiscal incentives, including a substantial cash rebate of up to 54% on qualifying production expenditures.
The inauguration of the Tenerife studio also formalizes Red Animation’s collaboration with Seru Animation, a German-based studio known for popular titles like “The Elkins,” “Rabbit Academy,” and “My Fairy Troublemaker.” Together, the two companies will collaborate on producing and co-producing a slate of CG feature films, leveraging their technological strengths and the production advantages offered by the region.
Red’s CEO and creative director, Milton Guerrero, expressed excitement about the new venture, stating, “Red Canarias allows us to bring our expertise closer to European clients and accelerate the development of our original IP slate.” Guillermo Peraza, producer and studio manager, joins the leadership team in Tenerife to oversee day-to-day operations alongside Guerrero and Red Animation’s head of production, Marie Castañeda.
Castañeda emphasized the studio’s commitment to reliability, creativity, and technical excellence, noting that Tenerife’s collaborative ecosystem provides an ideal environment to cultivate talent and continue delivering captivating content to audiences worldwide. Red Canarias is projected to create 40 high-skilled jobs in its inaugural year and establish training initiatives in collaboration with local universities, further solidifying the island’s position as a prominent European hub for animation and visual effects.
Recent projects from Red Animation Studios include popular titles like “Angry Birds: Maker Space,” “Crayola Crew,” and collaborations with SERU Animation on projects like “My Fairy Troublemaker” and “Elfkins 2.” The studio is also actively working on original projects such as the animated feature “KAI” and the series “Spark of the Mechas.”
Since its inception in 2005, Red Animation Studios has produced over 2,000 minutes of premium content for kids and families. With the expansion to Tenerife, the studio continues to expand its global presence and creative influence across continents. This strategic move to Tenerife positions Red Animation Studios for further growth and success in the European animation market.
