Reggie Miller, the iconic Indiana Pacers NBA veteran, is making a move to NBC Sports after the conclusion of this NBA season. For years, Miller has been a familiar face at Warner Bros. Discovery as an NBA analyst, but he is now set to bring his expertise to NBC Sports, which will be acquiring a new package of NBA game rights starting this fall.
Upon joining NBC Sports in October, Miller is slated to provide commentary for one or more games per week during both the regular season and playoffs. Reflecting on his upcoming role, Miller expressed his excitement, stating, “Some of my most memorable moments have been on NBC and I’m looking forward to creating more.” His illustrious basketball career, filled with unforgettable moments, was often broadcasted by NBC during its previous NBA rights tenure from 1990 to 2002.
NBCUniversal’s new NBA rights deal includes broadcasting games on both NBC and Peacock, the network’s streaming service. In addition to a national game every Monday night on Peacock, NBC will introduce new TV franchises on Sundays and Tuesdays. In January, Mike Tirico was appointed to lead coverage for many NBA games on NBC, alongside Jamal Crawford, a seasoned 20-season basketball veteran, as a game analyst. Frank DiGraci, a seasoned producer of Nets games for YES, has been named the coordinating producer of NBA telecasts.
The commitment from NBCUniversal towards NBA coverage is evident, with estimates suggesting an annual expenditure of up to $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion under the terms of an 11-year deal. This comprehensive package includes 100 regular-season games, the NBA All-Star Game, and exclusive first-round playoff games, as well as WNBA games. Notably, NBC is investing more in NBA games than its current NFL package, according to analysis from MoffettNathanson.
Reggie Miller, who spent all 18 seasons of his professional career with the Indiana Pacers, holds the team records for points scored, assists, and steals. A five-time NBA All-Star, Miller led Indiana to the NBA Finals in 2000. Sam Flood, the executive producer of NBC Sports, praised Miller’s addition to the team, highlighting his on-court prowess and broadcasting skills. Flood remarked, “Having provided so many memorable moments on NBC during his playing days, it’s only fitting that Reggie will join our team as the NBA returns to NBC and debuts on Peacock.
