Scott Rogowsky, the comedian known for his quick wit and self-deprecating humor, recently made waves at New York City Comic Con by roaming the event with his own photo printed like a “Wanted” poster. He filmed himself asking strangers if they had seen him, garnering reactions of flickering recognition and puzzled looks from passersby.

As people tried to place where they knew him from, Rogowsky embraced the persona of a washed-up internet sensation, poking fun at himself and acknowledging that his heyday was in the past. Despite once being the face of HQ Trivia, a popular live mobile game show that drew millions of viewers each night, Rogowsky found himself in a position of reinvention after the app’s decline and eventual bankruptcy in 2020.

Now, Rogowsky is back with a new app called Savvy, which features a daily live game show called TextSavvy. In this word puzzle game, players can compete against Rogowsky for cash prizes, offering a new twist on the trivia format that made him famous. Rogowsky sees this new venture as his calling, a chance to connect with viewers and entertain them in a different way.

Reflecting on his time with HQ Trivia, Rogowsky acknowledges the challenges and setbacks he faced, from the company’s internal struggles to his own personal journey of self-discovery. Despite the ups and downs, he remains grateful for the loyal fanbase he has built over the years and the opportunity to continue making people laugh.

As Rogowsky moves forward with Savvy and his comedy career, he is determined to stay true to himself and his unique brand of humor. While his path may have taken unexpected turns, he is embracing the opportunity to share his talents with a new audience and prove that he still has plenty to offer in the world of entertainment. After years of receiving messages from eager individuals looking to help build the next big trivia game app, Scott Rogowsky finally found a partner in European game designer Johan de Jager. Their collaboration led to the creation of TextSavvy, a unique trivia game where the host not only asks questions but also competes against the audience, creating a dynamic two-way interaction that sets it apart from other trivia apps.

Concerned about the prevalence of AI and the ease with which players can look up answers, Rogowsky and his team opted to focus on word puzzles instead of traditional trivia questions. This decision not only levels the playing field but also adds a new layer of challenge and engagement for players.

One notable difference between TextSavvy and its predecessor, HQ Trivia, is the prize payouts. While HQ occasionally offered six-figure prize pools, TextSavvy’s payouts have been more modest, with the most significant payout in a single game reaching around $400. The reason for this difference is that Rogowsky and his co-founders are self-funding the company, unlike HQ, which had substantial venture capital backing.

In a recent TextSavvy broadcast, Rogowsky addressed the difference in prize money, highlighting the fact that HQ had significant funding from venture capitalists, whereas TextSavvy is operating on a much smaller budget. Despite receiving offers from investors, Rogowsky is committed to maintaining control of the company and avoiding the pressure to maximize returns quickly, a model that ultimately led to HQ’s downfall.

Currently in a soft launch phase called “Season 0,” TextSavvy is working out technical issues before its official launch on March 1. Despite minimal promotion, the app has already attracted around 4,000 viewers in a single night, showing promise for its future success. Rogowsky is optimistic about the app’s potential, citing the modest beginnings of HQ Trivia as a testament to the possibility of growth and success.

With a focus on long-term sustainability and growth, Rogowsky envisions TextSavvy as a platform that will continue to evolve and expand, providing entertainment and engagement for its audience. Unlike the tumultuous history of HQ Trivia, Rogowsky is determined to steer TextSavvy on a steady course, prioritizing fun and community engagement over rapid financial gains. As the app prepares for its official launch, Rogowsky’s passion and dedication are evident, ensuring that TextSavvy has a bright future ahead.
