D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, known for his role in the Emmy-nominated series “Reservation Dogs,” is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming Australian-based series “Breakers.” Joining him in the cast are Antony Starr, Oliver Edis, and Annabel Wolfe.
Starr, who is also an executive producer on the project, will play Brando on the show, while Woon-A-Tai takes on the role of Elliott, a shy teen from Rhode Island who embarks on a surf trip to an Australian commune before facing the challenges of adult life. Edis will portray Flynn, and Wolfe will play Harper.
The supporting cast includes Asher Yasbincek as Maggie, David Howell as Iggy, Tyroe Muhafidin as Danno, Tom Dawson as Don, Sherry-Lee Watson as Astrid, Lu Miller as Amara, Eliza Learmonth as Clementine, and Brodie Townsend as Kurt.
“Breakers” is currently in production in Western Australia and follows two best friends who go backpacking in Australia and find themselves entangled in a seemingly perfect community of surfers led by a charismatic yet mysterious figure.
The series is written and executive produced by Pete Jackson, with Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, and Wim De Greef also serving as executive producers. Mary Nighy and Ng Choon Ping are directors, while Nick Pitt is a producer. Clerkenwell Films, a part of BBC Studios, is producing the show along with BBC Studios Productions Australia.
De Greef expressed excitement about filming “Breakers” in Western Australia, highlighting the opportunity to work with local crews and showcase the stunning coastline on screen.
Woon-A-Tai’s impressive resume includes roles in projects like “Warfare” and “Caught Stealing,” as well as critically acclaimed films like “Beans” and “Fitting In.” He has also appeared in the indie thriller “Only the Good Survive” and the digital series “Normal Ain’t Normal.”
