Elon Musk’s SpaceX Launches New City Named Starbase
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is making headlines once again as the company now has its very own official town named Starbase. The residents living around SpaceX’s Starbase launch site in southern Texas recently voted overwhelmingly to incorporate as a city with the same name. The Cameron County Elections Department posted the results online, revealing that there were 212 votes in favor of the incorporation and only six against it.
Elon Musk took to his social media platform X to announce the exciting news, stating that Starbase, Texas is now officially a city. The majority of the new city’s residents are believed to be SpaceX employees, and they also participated in electing three current and former Starbase employees to serve as the mayor and two commissioners.
While SpaceX hasn’t shared many details about the reasons behind incorporating the area, the company mentioned that it already manages the area’s infrastructure, including roads, utilities, schooling, and medical care. Additionally, SpaceX is looking to transfer authority from the county to the new city government to facilitate the closure of the nearby Boca Chica beach and state park for launches.
Elon Musk made headlines last year when he announced the relocation of SpaceX’s headquarters from California to the Starbase facility in Texas. He cited concerns about safety and legislation as the primary reasons for the move. Musk expressed his frustration with the challenges of operating in California and highlighted the benefits of establishing a presence in Texas.
Following the recent election, a new X account representing the town of Starbase shared a message expressing their excitement about becoming a city. They mentioned that this transition would enable them to create a better community for the individuals working on shaping the future of human space exploration.
