Itacho Sushi, a popular restaurant group headquartered in Hong Kong, has officially ceased its operations in Singapore. This news comes after a string of outlet closures over the past year, as reported by The Straits Times.

The company’s last four locations at Ion Orchard, Bugis Junction, The Star Vista, and Square 2 in Novena have all been marked as “permanently closed” on Google Maps. In addition, Itacho Sushi’s online presence has been completely taken down. The corporate website is no longer accessible, and the social media pages have been deactivated. The mobile application, which was used for browsing the menu, placing orders, and accessing rewards, has also disappeared from major app stores.

These closures follow the shutdown of stores in Tampines Mall and Bedok Mall. Despite these developments, there has been no public communication or formal announcement from the company regarding the closures.

Itacho Sushi was established in Hong Kong in 2004 under the Taste of Japan Group and gained popularity for its handmade sushi and salmon-focused menu. The brand expanded beyond its home market in the late 2000s, making its debut in Singapore in 2009.

According to government portal Bizfile, Itacho BM, the company that operates the chain in Singapore, is listed as “gazetted to be struck off” from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority’s Register of Companies.

The decision to withdraw from Singapore comes after similar developments in the brand’s origin market. In December 2024, the South China Morning Post reported that Itacho Sushi’s last restaurant in Hong Kong had closed following the death of founder Ricky Cheng.

This news of Itacho Sushi’s closure in Singapore follows the recent shutdown of all outlets of cafĂ© and gourmet grocer The Providore Singapore. The Providore had six locations in the country.
