Two of Hollywood director Rob Reiner’s children have reportedly ceased funding the legal expenses for their brother Nick, who is facing charges in the tragic stabbing of their parents in Los Angeles.

Romy, 28, and Jake, 34, were seen in Los Angeles recently and have stopped providing financial support for a private defense attorney for their brother, as per a report by TMZ.

High-profile criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson was initially hired by the siblings after the bodies of the director and his wife, Michele, were discovered in December. However, Jackson later withdrew from the case due to an undisclosed disagreement.

Following Jackson’s departure, a public defender, Kimberly Greene, was appointed to represent Nick temporarily. However, it was expected that another private attorney would be hired for his defense.

During Nick’s arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges, Jake and Romy were reportedly not involved in his defense strategy.

The district attorney for LA County, Nathan Hochman, mentioned that the death penalty could be a possibility for Nick if convicted, despite Rob’s opposition to capital punishment.

Nick, 32, was taken into custody after the discovery of his parents’ bodies in their Brentwood residence in December. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29.

Prior to the incident, Nick had openly discussed his struggles with substance abuse and periods of instability, including addiction and homelessness.

He collaborated with his father on the film “Being Charlie” in 2015, a project inspired by his own experiences with substance abuse and recovery.

Reports also indicate that Nick had a history of mental health treatment and was under a conservatorship in 2020, which was later terminated. However, specific details regarding diagnoses and medications have not been disclosed in court documents related to the case.
