Armed Robbery Spree in Chicago: Ohio Man and Teenagers Arrested

A 25-year-old Ohio man and three teenage boys were apprehended by police after carrying out a series of armed robberies on the North Side of Chicago. The suspects attempted to use the victim’s debit card at a gas station and later tried to commit another armed robbery before being stopped by law enforcement.

Javonni Clark, hailing from Zanesville, Ohio, along with three boys aged 15, 16, and 17, are accused of perpetrating the armed robbery spree on the night of January 5 in the West Rogers Park and Uptown neighborhoods.

According to authorities, the incident began around 10 p.m. when a 44-year-old man was targeted while retrieving items from his car in the 6600 block of North Maplewood. Clark allegedly pulled up in a 2020 Mercury Mariner and positioned the vehicle near the victim. One of the teenagers, wearing a mask and with a hand in his hoodie pocket, threatened the victim with what appeared to be a gun. Another teen, also masked and holding a black pistol, proceeded to rob the victim of his belongings.

The third teenager stood by as a lookout while Clark remained inside the vehicle. The suspects took the victim’s wallet, utility knife, and phone but eventually let him keep the phone before driving away in the Mariner.

Shortly after the robbery, the victim received a notification from his bank indicating that his debit card had been used at a gas station on North Western Avenue. Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the suspects attempting to make purchases with the stolen card. When asked for identification, the trio became agitated, demanded the card back, and fled without retrieving it. Police later recovered the card from the clerk.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the suspects tried to rob another individual walking in the 2200 block of West Winona. Doorbell camera footage showed the teenagers confronting the pedestrian before giving chase. The victim managed to escape and reported the incident to the authorities, identifying the Mariner and one of the teenagers involved.

Police located the Mariner around 11:11 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, pulling over the vehicle with Clark behind the wheel and the three teenagers still inside. Authorities found the victim’s stolen property, a black metal pellet gun with a laser sight, and the victim’s credit cards in the possession of one of the teenagers.

Clark has been charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, while the teenagers face charges of armed robbery with a firearm and attempted armed robbery with a firearm. Clark remains detained, while the status of the minors is undisclosed due to their cases being handled in juvenile court.
