Robert Lewandowski, the prolific Polish striker, has reportedly advised Barcelona against making a move for Lille’s Jonathan David in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to a report from El Nacional, Lewandowski is not keen on competing for playing time in the number nine position, which could potentially hinder David’s transfer to Camp Nou.

The 36-year-old forward’s opinion holds weight as he is only contracted with Barcelona until the summer of 2026. Despite the allure of signing David on a free transfer once his contract with Lille expires in 2025, Lewandowski’s stance may influence the Catalan club’s decision-making process. David, 24, has been in impressive form this season, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 24 appearances across competitions, making him a desirable prospect for Barcelona as a long-term successor to Lewandowski.

Since joining Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 for €45 million, Lewandowski has been a key player for the club, scoring 82 goals and providing 19 assists in 117 appearances. He has won the LaLiga title and the Pichichi trophy during his time at the club and continues to be a pivotal figure in Hansi Flick’s squad, with 23 goals in 22 appearances this season.

In addition to the Jonathan David saga, Barcelona has also been linked with a move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Reports from Portugal suggest that the Sweden international could cost Barcelona between €68 million and €78 million, with competition from Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United.

Gyokeres, 26, has been in scintillating form for Sporting this season, scoring 25 goals in 23 appearances across competitions. His existing contract with the Portuguese club runs until 2028, making him a valuable asset in the transfer market. The prospect of reuniting with former Sporting coach Ruben Amorim at Manchester United could also sway Gyokeres’ decision-making process in the upcoming transfer window.

As Barcelona explores their options in the transfer market, the decisions surrounding Jonathan David and Viktor Gyokeres will be crucial in shaping the club’s attacking lineup for the future. With Lewandowski’s input and the club’s ambitions in mind, the summer of 2025 promises to be an intriguing period for Barcelona and their pursuit of striking reinforcements.
