Rory McIlroy has been under scrutiny for his decision to skip speaking to the media after his rounds at certain events. The seasoned PGA Tour veteran, currently participating in the 2025 U.S. Open, has finally addressed the issue. In his recent statement, McIlroy has taken a firm stance on the matter.

Numerous top players have faced challenges at Oakmont Country Club during the rounds of the 2025 U.S. Open. As the tournament progresses, some players have shown frustration with their performances.

The controversy surrounding McIlroy’s choice to avoid media interactions started at the PGA Championship, following the disqualification of his driver. McIlroy expressed his frustrations with the media and shared his thoughts on the issue.

“It’s more a frustration with you guys… I feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do when it comes to speaking,” McIlroy stated.

After successfully making the cut at the U.S. Open, McIlroy discussed his mindset at the event in relation to advancing to the weekend rounds.

“Yeah, it’s funny, like it’s much easier being on the cut line when you don’t really care if you’re here for the weekend or not,” McIlroy reflected. “I was sort of thinking, do I really want two more days here or not. So it makes it easier to play better when you’re in that mindset.”

NUCLR Golf shared Rory McIlroy’s comments on the matter as he competes in the third round of the 125th U.S. Open.
