Rubrik Announces Acquisition of Predibase to Boost Enterprise AI Adoption
Data cybersecurity company Rubrik made headlines on Wednesday with the announcement of its intent to acquire Predibase, a venture-backed startup specializing in training and fine-tuning open source AI models for customization. This strategic move by Rubrik is aimed at enhancing enterprise AI agent adoption, further solidifying its position in the fast-evolving AI landscape.
The terms of the acquisition deal were not disclosed, but sources reported a substantial range between $100 million and $500 million. Rubrik has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the specifics of the financial transaction.
Founded in 2021 by Devvret Rishi, Piero Molino, and Travis Addair, Predibase has garnered over $28 million in venture capital funding from prominent investors such as Felicis, Greylock, and Sancus Ventures. The expertise and technology brought in by Predibase will enable Rubrik users to streamline the development of AI agents across major platforms like Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and Google Agentspace.
In a press release, Rubrik’s co-founder and CEO, Bipul Sinha, expressed enthusiasm about the integration of Predibase’s capabilities with Rubrik’s secure data platforms. Sinha emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration in leveraging trusted data to drive responsible and impactful AI initiatives. He highlighted the role of Predibase in addressing performance and cost challenges associated with deploying large language models for various AI applications, including agentic AI.
With this acquisition, Rubrik joins a growing cohort of companies actively enhancing their technology stack to bolster AI agent development. Recent notable acquisitions in the industry include Salesforce’s purchase of Informatica for $8 billion, Snowflake’s acquisition of Crunchy Data, and Collibra’s acquisition of Raito, all aimed at fortifying AI capabilities.
Established in 2014, Rubrik had a successful venture capital journey, raising over $1.6 billion from investors like Khosla Ventures, IVP, and Lightspeed Venture Partners before going public in April 2024. The acquisition of Predibase marks a significant milestone in Rubrik’s quest to stay at the forefront of AI innovation and drive widespread adoption of AI agents in the enterprise sector.
