Ryu Seungryong is making a splash on Disney+ once again with his upcoming series, “Low Life,” a thrilling treasure-hunting crime drama set in 1970s Korea.

The 11-part series follows the story of Oh Gwanseok, played by Ryu Seungryong, a sly opportunist who teams up with his nephew, Oh Heedong, portrayed by Yang Sejong, to embark on various get-rich-quick schemes. When news breaks about the discovery of an ancient treasure ship off the coast of Korea, the uncle-nephew duo find themselves in a race against time and rival treasure hunters to claim their fortune.

“Low Life” is brought to life by writer-director Kang Yunsung, known for his work on the Disney+ hit “Big Bet” and the film “The Outlaws.” The series also stars Lim Soojung as Yang Jungsook, adding depth to the ensemble cast.

Yang Sejong, recognized for his roles in “Doona!” and “Temperature of Love,” takes on the role of the nephew entangled in the thrilling treasure hunt orchestrated by his uncle.

The premise of “Low Life” taps into the beloved Korean cinema tradition of heist and crime capers, with the 1970s backdrop adding a nostalgic touch to the high-stakes adventure.

Disney+ continues to strengthen its lineup of Korean originals in 2025 with the success of previous releases like the serial killer thriller “Hyper Knife” and the highly acclaimed drama “Nine Puzzles.”

Upcoming Korean content on Disney+ includes “Tempest,” featuring Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon, and John Cho, as well as “Made In Korea,” showcasing Hyun Bin and Jung Woosung.

“Low Life” is set to premiere with three episodes on July 16, followed by two episodes weekly until the two-part finale on August 13. Fans can look forward to an action-packed and suspenseful journey as Ryu Seungryong and Yang Sejong lead the way in this captivating treasure hunt on Disney+.
