The annual Hitmakers brunch hosted by Variety in Hollywood was a celebration of diverse musical artists and songwriters who have made a significant impact in the industry. The event highlighted the importance of early inspiration for many of these artists, with Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, the Creator, Tate McRae, EJAE, and Buddy Guy all sharing stories of their beginnings in music.

Sabrina Carpenter, named Hitmaker of the Year, reminisced about writing her first song at the young age of 10. Tyler, the Creator credited his creativity to his vivid imagination as a 7-year-old. Tate McRae started writing songs in her bedroom at 13, while EJAE began his songwriting journey at 10. Even 89-year-old blues legend Buddy Guy shared his humble beginnings growing up without clean water in rural Louisiana.

The Hitmakers brunch also coincided with the release of Variety’s annual Hitmakers issue, which showcases the artists and collaborators behind the year’s top 25 songs. The event honored breakthrough artists like Alex Warren, who expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared personal struggles that fueled his music.

BigXthaPlug was recognized as the Hip-Hop Disruptor of the Year for his independent work in the music industry. The Marías received the Anti-Hit Hitmakers of the Year award for staying true to their sound and emotions in a pop-driven industry.

Producers of the Year, Jack Antonoff, Mustard, and Sounwave, were commended for their work with Kendrick Lamar. Elliot Grainge, the Executive of the Year, was praised for his leadership at Atlantic Records, which has seen success with artists like Warren, Rosé, Bruno Mars, and more.

Rising stars like Addison Rae, Luka Kloser, and Elvira Anderfjard were honored with the Future Is Female award for their collaborative efforts. Fuerza Regida, a Mexican American band, was recognized as Humanitarians of the Year for their community work.

The Hitmakers brunch also featured emotional acceptance speeches from Rei Ami, Audrey Nuna, and EJAE of “KPop Demon Hunters,” as well as rising star Rosé. Republic Records was named Label of the Year for their consistent success in the industry.

Overall, the event was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and perseverance in the music industry. With premier partners like TikTok, Riot Games, CashApp, and Visa, Hitmakers continues to shine a spotlight on the talent and dedication of artists in the music world.
