Samsung Galaxy A16 Review: Great Battery Life
SHARE

The Samsung Galaxy A16 is a budget phone that offers excellent battery life and long-term software support. However, it falls short in terms of performance, camera quality, and missing features like stereo speakers and 4K video recording. Priced at $149.99, the A16 competes against other budget phones like the Redmi Note 13 and Poco X6.

Design & Build:
The Galaxy A16 features a larger 6.7-inch display with IP54 water resistance. The matt plastic back feels sturdy and resists fingerprints. The phone lacks stereo speakers and premium materials, but the design is overall well-built and comfortable to hold.

Screen & Sound:
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display offers vibrant colors and deep blacks, with 800-nit peak brightness for good outdoor visibility. However, the phone only has a single bottom-firing speaker, lacking in depth and bass compared to phones with dual speakers.

Specs & Performance:
The A16 runs on either the MediaTek Helio G99 or Samsung’s Exynos 1280 chipset, depending on the region. Both chipsets struggle with heavy multitasking and gaming. The phone comes with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, expandable via microSD. Overall, the performance is underwhelming compared to competitors.

Battery Life & Charging:
The 5000mAh battery of the A16 offers excellent endurance, lasting up to two days with moderate use. However, the 25W wired charging is slower compared to other phones in the same price range. The phone lacks wireless charging and reverse charging features.

Cameras:
The A16 features a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. The main camera performs well in daylight, but the secondary cameras are weak. Low-light performance is poor, and video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps without stabilization.

Software & Features:
Samsung promises six years of Android updates for the A16, which is unmatched in the budget segment. The phone runs on One UI 6.1, which is feature-packed but can be sluggish at times. The software lacks premium features like Always-On Display and Samsung DeX.

Price & Availability:
The Samsung Galaxy A16 is priced at $149.99 and comes in three colors. It is available for purchase from Samsung and Amazon in the UK, with limited official buying options in the US. The phone comes in two configurations: 4GB RAM + 128GB storage and 6GB RAM + 256GB storage.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A16 offers good battery life and software support but falls short in terms of performance, camera quality, and missing features. While it may be a reasonable option for some users, there are better choices available in the same price range.
