Singapore’s Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) and France’s TotalEnergies SE have joined forces to develop a groundbreaking solar and battery energy storage project in Indonesia’s Riau Province. The joint venture, known as Singa Renewables, aims to construct a large-scale infrastructure that will provide clean energy to industrial areas in Riau while also exporting solar power to Singapore. This initiative is a significant step towards supporting Indonesia’s decarbonization goals and fostering energy collaboration throughout the region.

The project, which will be implemented in multiple phases, was officially announced during the signing of the Co-Investment Agreement on May 28 at the Presidential Palace. The ceremony was attended by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the strategic importance of the project and the strong government support from both nations.

Helle Kristoffersen, president of TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) Asia, emphasized the project’s role in driving the development of regional renewable energy infrastructure and advancing the ASEAN Power Grid vision. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in the energy transition journey for both companies.

Imelda Tanoto, Managing Director of RGE, highlighted the partnership as a reflection of the company’s dedication to enhancing regional energy connectivity and promoting the broader energy transition agenda. The project is not only geared towards reducing emissions but also aims to position Indonesia as a key player in the global renewable energy sector.

Apart from its environmental benefits, the initiative is expected to create skilled job opportunities in the fields of solar energy, energy storage, and grid engineering. Additionally, it will enhance local supply chain capabilities and contribute to the broader ASEAN goals for clean energy trade and regional energy integration.
