Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Missing Feature Could Be a Dealbreaker – Tech Advisor

The device is restricted to just two positions: open or closed, which is a significant drawback when compared to the Ultra model. Here’s why.

Who let the flex out?

At first glance, the Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra may appear to have similar hinges. Both incorporate the innovative ‘Flex Titanium’ design, enhancing durability and greatly minimizing the crease visibility.

However, the Ultra stands out with its unique ability to open at nearly any angle between fully open and closed, akin to a laptop. In contrast, the Z Fold 8 can only be opened or closed completely, preventing it from standing independently on a surface.

This limitation results in the loss of Samsung’s hallmark feature, Flex Mode. Consequently, users miss out on handy functions like hands-free video calling, instant camera previews, and convenient group photos. Additionally, there is no dedicated control panel for streaming services like YouTube and Netflix, nor a separate gamepad for select mobile games.

A potential dealbreaker?

Whether the absence of Flex Mode is a dealbreaker depends on the user’s needs. If a device that functions strictly as a phone or tablet suffices, then the Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains a fitting choice.
