Shannon Taylor brings enchanting dioramas to life within vintage cosmetic compacts, transforming them into miniature worlds filled with vibrant scenes. These unique vessels, sourced from flea markets, vintage shops, and friends, are rich in character but often conceal the wonders within. Inside, watercolor creations on paper—featuring tiny mermaids, unicorns, and an array of flora and fauna—invite viewers into a realm reminiscent of Polly Pocket’s charm.
Taylor’s work is featured in the Common Waters exhibition at Arch Enemy Arts. She is also preparing for her solo exhibition, Minor Mending, set to open at Modern Eden in San Francisco on August 6. Additionally, she curated the exhibition Fairyland @ 75: A Legacy of Magic at the Oakland Museum of California. This show, organized in collaboration with Children’s Fairyland, where Taylor serves as Director of Art and Restoration, will run through the end of the summer. More of her work can be seen on her Instagram.
