Samsung Missed a Big Opportunity at Galaxy Unpacked – Tech Advisor

I stayed tuned to the end of the Unpacked live stream, hoping for a surprise announcement about the smart ring. This anticipation stemmed from Samsung’s unexpected reveal of its original model at the January 2024 Unpacked event.

After its initial reveal, it took six months for the Galaxy Ring to officially launch. This timeline set the stage for Samsung’s July 2026 Unpacked event to align perfectly with a two-year update for the smart ring.

However, the only mention of the Galaxy Ring was that the original model is set to be the first smart ring with FDA clearance to detect sleep apnea. This development is certainly beneficial for current users, yet a new version is eagerly awaited.

Although two years have passed, Samsung seems content to delay the launch of the Galaxy Ring 2. The company has officially acknowledged that a successor is being developed, but it has not provided any details about the release schedule.

Upon inquiry, I received the standard reply: “Samsung doesn’t speculate or comment on upcoming product launches.”

Better late than never?

Speculation suggests a launch in early 2027, potentially coinciding with the unveiling of the Galaxy S27 series at an Unpacked event. While this may be a case of ‘better late than never,’ it still appears to be a missed chance for Samsung this year.
