A power outage in San Francisco affected 130,000 homes and businesses on Saturday, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The outage started in the Richmond and Presidio neighborhoods, expanding to other areas near Golden Gate Park. The cause of the blackout was not immediately disclosed by PG&E, representing about one-third of their customers in the city. Reports on social media and local news indicated widespread closures of establishments, darkened streets, and holiday decorations.

The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management reported significant disruptions in transit citywide, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and treat malfunctioning traffic signals as four-way stops. Transportation agencies bypassed some bus and train stations due to the power outages. A fire at a PG&E substation on 8th and Mission streets contributed to some of the blackouts, as confirmed by fire officials.

By 4 p.m., PG&E stabilized the power grid and did not anticipate further outages. However, they could not confirm if power would be fully restored by the end of Saturday. The company urged the public to conserve energy to prevent surges.

Updates from the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management and PG&E on Twitter provided real-time information on the outage and response efforts. The developing situation required residents to only contact 9-1-1 for emergencies, follow traffic safety guidelines, and minimize power usage.
