Two men were tragically shot and killed in downtown San Jose in the early hours of Sunday morning, just hours before the city was gearing up to celebrate the nearby Super Bowl festivities. This incident marks the second and third homicides to occur in the California city in 2026.

The double slaying took place on the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio around 2:20 a.m., prompting a swift response from the San Jose Police Department. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes to find both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives are now working to unravel the events that led to the fatal encounter. Authorities have described the shooting as an “isolated incident,” but the motive behind the attack remains unknown. At this time, no suspects have been identified or taken into custody. The identities of the victims have been withheld pending notification of their families by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner.

In a separate incident earlier in the year, two brothers, Jose Flores and John Flores, were arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy in a Winchester Boulevard parking lot. The teenager was fatally shot by the suspects on February 2nd and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Through the use of license plate readers and surveillance cameras, detectives were able to track down the suspect vehicle, leading them to the homes of the Flores brothers in San Jose and Santa Clara. Both men are currently facing murder charges and are being held in the Santa Clara County Jail.

The proximity of these violent incidents to the Super Bowl festivities at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara has cast a shadow over the celebrations. Downtown San Jose, where the shootings occurred, is just a short drive away from the stadium, where the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks are set to face off in Super Bowl LX.

As the community grapples with these tragic events, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations. The California Post will continue to provide updates on these cases and other news stories impacting the region.
