Cairo, January 3: The golden coffin and royal mask of Tutankhamen, requiring eight men to carry, have made their way from Luxor to the Egyptian Antiquities Museum in Cairo. Mr. Howard Carter and Mr. Lucas oversaw the procession, which was guarded by seven armed guards. The coffin, lid, and mask, all made of pure gold and weighing 7cwt, hold an estimated intrinsic gold value of £40,000.

The Minister of Railways, Hon J.G. Coates, has denied the reinstatement of stations in the suburban railway fares area for Waitati, Evansdale, and Purakanui. He stated that the traffic from these areas to Dunedin did not justify the reduction in fares offered for suburban travel.
