Savannah Guthrie was not present at the studio when a recent incident occurred, but sources informed the Daily Mail that the security scare had a significant impact on her. This is largely due to the ongoing investigation into her mother’s disappearance.
Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, is believed to have been abducted from her residence in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. She remains missing, and the individual presumed responsible has not been apprehended.
An insider shared with the outlet that the latest incident has resurfaced emotional pain for Guthrie.
“The timing couldn’t have been more heartbreaking,” the source expressed. “How much more can one person take?”
Guthrie had previously taken a nearly two-month hiatus from the Today show following her mother’s disappearance, before resuming her role in April.
Discussing her return, she candidly acknowledged the difficulty of rejoining a show known for its cheerful vibe while dealing with such a challenging personal situation.
“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness,” Guthrie remarked. “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back because it’s my family.”
