Scott Printz, a highly respected producer known for his work on hit television shows like ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder,” Apple TV’s “Truth Be Told,” and HBO/Max’s “Bookie,” passed away on January 23 in Los Angeles at the age of 69. He had been battling an illness for some time before his passing.

Printz’s career in the entertainment industry began as a trainee with the Directors Guild of America. He quickly moved up the ranks to become a second and first assistant director on various film and television projects. Eventually, he transitioned into roles as a unit production manager and producer, starting his producing journey with Shonda Rhimes’ “Private Practice.”

Throughout his career, Printz became known for his work on both comedy and drama series, working on successful shows for network primetime as well as streaming platforms. He was a member of prestigious industry organizations such as the DGA and the Television Academy.

In addition to his work on “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Truth Be Told,” Printz’s producing credits also include shows like “American Auto,” “Pivoting,” “The Mayor,” and “Intelligence.” Colleagues and collaborators remember him for his excellence, warmth, calm demeanor, and fair leadership style.

Director Andy Tennant described Printz as a “gentle, confident leader of the pack,” while cinematographer Tim Shurstedt praised his comprehensive understanding of production and unwavering honesty. Printz’s longtime agent, Janet Carol Norton, highlighted his collaborative approach, personality, and sense of humor.

Outside of work, Printz was an avid sportsman who shared his love for the ocean, wilderness, music, films, and cooking with his family. He is survived by his wife, former casting director Shani Ginsberg, his sons Arlen and Jesse, Jesse’s partner Christina Lelon, siblings Matthew, Kyle, and Vicki, and mother Shirley.
