Search and rescue teams in the UK are using drones and search dogs to find a missing hiker from Westchester County who disappeared in the Scottish Highlands last week. Brian McGillicuddy, 64, from Harrison, went missing near Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak, around 4 a.m. on Thursday. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and other crews are involved in the search efforts.
Drone pilots from the Search and Rescue Aerial Association have joined the search over the weekend to help locate McGillicuddy. The search now includes at least 46 rescue crew members, three dogs, and drones.
McGillicuddy’s sister-in-law, Kirsten Swanson McGillicuddy, expressed gratitude for the search efforts despite challenging weather conditions. She mentioned that Brian is a beloved figure in the climbing community and a wonderful man.
The missing hiker’s family, deeply rooted in Harrison, remains hopeful for his safe return. McGillicuddy Stadium at Harrison High School is named after his father, highlighting the family’s connection to the town.
Scottish police Sgt. Gareth Ford urged anyone with information about McGillicuddy’s whereabouts to come forward, emphasizing the importance of even small details in assisting the search teams.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the family continues to hold onto hope for a miracle as the search for Brian McGillicuddy continues in the Scottish Highlands.
