The incident that took place at a Harlem subway platform early Sunday left a 56-year-old woman with severe injuries after she tried to intervene in a fight between two men. The victim was pushed into the side of an oncoming train by one of the men involved in the altercation, resulting in a broken back, a cut on the head, a black eye, and bleeding in her lungs and spinal fractures.

Despite her injuries, the victim was able to identify her attacker to the police, leading to the arrest of Aaron Nett, 33, from Newark, NJ. Nett was charged with assault and reckless endangerment as felonies and was taken into custody. The victim was transported to Harlem Hospital where she was listed in stable condition, while Nett was also hospitalized for evaluation.

Nett appeared in court on Monday and was charged with first- and second-degree assault, with bail set at $5,000 cash, $30,000 insurance bond, or $15,000 partially secured surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday. It is still unclear whether Nett and the other man involved in the fight knew each other or what the dispute was about.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of intervening in altercations and the importance of personal safety in public spaces. The victim’s bravery in trying to break up the fight unfortunately led to serious consequences, highlighting the need for caution and awareness in such situations.
