The search for an individual who was swept out to sea near Greymouth on Saturday has resumed today.
Senior Sergeant Mark Kirkwood of West Coast Search and Rescue reported that the police were alerted to a kayaker being swept out to sea around 6pm on Saturday.
“The search operation restarted this morning, with police and Precision Helicopters conducting aerial searches along the shoreline from Ross to Charleston,” Snr Sgt Kirkwood stated.
“Despite challenging sea conditions with rough waters and white caps, the individual has yet to be found.”
Snr Sgt Kirkwood mentioned that the police are actively investigating to identify the person who was swept out to sea and determine if the kayak discovered near Blaketown at approximately 7.30pm on Saturday is connected to the incident.
