In a tragic turn of events, a second undocumented immigrant injured in the mass shooting at a Dallas ICE facility has succumbed to his wounds. This heartbreaking news comes from his devastated wife, who is awaiting the arrival of their fifth child.

The victim, Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, age 32, was targeted in a sniper-style attack last Wednesday, sustaining at least eight gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Parkland Hospital but sadly passed away from his injuries, as reported by CBS News.

“Miguel was an incredible man, a devoted father, and our family’s main supporter,” his wife, Stephany Gauffeny, expressed in a statement to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) on Tuesday.

“We had just purchased our first home together, and he tirelessly worked to ensure our children had everything they required. His passing is an incomprehensible tragedy that has left our family in ruins. I am at a loss for words on how to tell our children that their father is no longer with us,” she added.

Garcia-Hernandez was apprehended by ICE following a DUI arrest on August 8 and was in the U.S. without legal status, according to Gauffeny’s earlier statements.

A GoFundMe campaign initiated by his family described him as the sole breadwinner, working tirelessly as a house painter.

Another detainee, Norlan Guzman Fuentes, a 37-year-old from El Salvador, was also a victim in last week’s shooting and tragically lost his life at the scene.

Jose Andre Bordones-Molina, a Venezuelan national, was injured but has since been discharged from the hospital, as announced by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Dallas ICE field office plans to reopen on Tuesday, implementing heightened security measures in light of recent events.

This facility operates as a temporary holding site for detainees and reported an average daily population of 47 individuals during the first half of 2025, according to CBS News.
