CHICAGO — A notorious criminal with a history of burglaries has been convicted once again after pleading guilty to a series of car break-ins, primarily in the West Loop area. Jeffery Morgan, a five-time felon with distinctive facial tattoos, met his downfall by targeting Teslas equipped with cameras that capture images of everyone who enters the vehicle.

Last June, Morgan was charged with ten counts of burglary for allegedly breaking into nearly a dozen cars over several months. The gravity of his offenses escalated when Chicago police discovered a machine gun concealed under the seat of Morgan’s car during his arrest, leading prosecutors to file a Class X armed habitual criminal charge against him.

At his initial court appearance, prosecutors detailed Morgan’s alleged crimes, including breaking into Teslas on multiple occasions to steal valuables such as credit cards, cash, electronics, and personal items. He also targeted other vehicles in the area, taking items like designer bags, shoes, and firearms from unsuspecting victims.

In a daring move, Morgan was caught in the act by Chicago police officers as he burglarized a Cadillac and a Kia in a parking lot, making off with more stolen goods and another handgun. Despite attempts to flee, he was apprehended by law enforcement, who later found yet another weapon in his possession – this one modified for automatic gunfire.

After a lengthy legal process, Morgan ultimately pleaded guilty to two of the burglaries, leading to a sentence of two concurrent 9-year terms. However, due to the possibility of early release for good behavior and accumulated credit for time served, he may be out of prison in just a few months.

Morgan’s criminal record is littered with past convictions for burglary and unlawful possession of weapons, dating back over a decade. His latest stint behind bars serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of his actions and the impact on his victims.

As the case of Jeffery Morgan comes to a close, the community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a repeat offender has been brought to justice once again. The streets of the West Loop are a little safer now, thanks to the diligent work of law enforcement in apprehending this dangerous criminal.
