President-elect Trump’s Unconventional Cabinet Picks
During his segment “Closer Look,” Seth Meyers took a critical look at President-elect Donald Trump’s recent cabinet picks, including the controversial choice of Fox News host and Army National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense.
Meyers humorously referred to Trump’s cabinet as a “Pandora’s cabinet of goblins and weirdos,” suggesting that Trump is assembling a team of unconventional individuals to take on key government roles. He quipped that Trump is unleashing them on the government like “ferrets on ketamine.”
In a surprising move, Trump announced that billionaire Elon Musk, known for his work with Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, will lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency” alongside Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican primary candidate. Trump praised Musk and Ramaswamy for their ability to dismantle government bureaucracy, cut regulations, and restructure federal agencies.
Meyers criticized the appointment of Musk, highlighting his vast wealth, defense contracts, and connections to foreign governments. He pointed out the potential conflicts of interest and described the move as “ludicrously corrupt.”
Hegseth’s nomination as secretary of defense also drew scrutiny from Meyers, who joked that a Fox News host leading the Defense Department was a peculiar choice. He humorously suggested that the alternative candidate was the mascot of General Insurance.
Meyers sarcastically praised Trump’s unconventional picks, suggesting even more outlandish choices for key government positions. He highlighted the absurdity of the appointments but acknowledged that Trump’s second term would likely be characterized by unrestrained decision-making.
