With the recent cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show, a collective anxiety has swept through the late-night television landscape, leaving hosts like Seth Meyers contemplating their own professional futures.

During a candid conversation on the Armchair Expert podcast, Meyers expressed his concern for his mental wellbeing should NBC decide to pull the plug on his program, much like CBS did with Colbert.

For those familiar with Meyers’ work, this sentiment doesn’t come as a shock. The man famously shed tears on-air following Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory, a moment that highlighted the personal stakes involved for many in the entertainment industry.

Breitbart News reports:

Seth Meyers Voices Concern for Mental Health Amid Uncertainty of Late-Night Show’s Fate

The late-night host has candidly articulated his worries regarding his mental health if NBC follows suit with Colbert’s exit.

In his discussion with Dax Shepard, Meyers stated, “I would worry about myself, like, mental health-wise,” if his show were to be canceled “tomorrow.”

He went on to mention that he would explore other comedic avenues such as stand-up, while also contemplating the importance of “diversifying my skill set.”

“Certainly, financially, I could have been fine just doing the show for the last 11 years. But then it was like, ‘Oh, you know what? I feel like there’s something to trying to build a stand-up career and trying to do other things,’” he shared.

However, Meyers acknowledged that the ultimate decision rests in the hands of NBC executives.

“I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn’t be good enough, and now my fear is weirdly more outside of my control, which is
just at some point, the ecosystem might not support [late night],” he reflected.

The challenge facing Colbert, Meyers, Kimmel, and their ilk is the unsettling realization that they are essentially delivering the same brand of humor. In stark contrast, Greg Gutfeld stands out as a unique voice, paradoxically thriving in an environment where others falter. It’s a curious twist, isn’t it?
