Sharon Horgan, the creative mind behind the hit series “Bad Sisters,” has recently signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO. As part of the agreement, HBO has given Horgan and her production company, Merman, a straight-to-series order for a new comedy show where she will write, executive produce, and star.

The upcoming series, which is the first project to emerge from this new deal, will center around a 50-year-old divorcee on a quest for love and intimacy while balancing the responsibilities of caring for her elderly parents and raising her adult son. This intriguing premise promises to deliver a unique and heartfelt perspective on the complexities of relationships and family dynamics.

Horgan’s impressive track record includes acclaimed series like “Pulling,” “Catastrophe,” “Motherland,” and “Amandaland,” in addition to “Bad Sisters.” Her work has garnered her Emmy nominations and prestigious awards such as BAFTAs and Peabodys, solidifying her reputation as a talented and versatile creator.

This collaboration marks a return to HBO for Horgan, who previously helmed the series “Divorce,” starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church. Amy Gravitt, executive VP of HBO & Max comedy programming, expressed excitement about reuniting with Horgan and praised her ability to infuse her characters with personal experiences, making her comedy relatable and engaging.

The new series developed by Horgan under her Merman banner is set to showcase her unique storytelling style and talent for crafting compelling narratives. Merman, established in 2014, has been behind successful projects like “Bad Sisters,” “Motherland,” and the recent spin-off “Amandaland,” which premiered to critical acclaim in early 2025.
