Federation Studios’ distribution arm, Federation Intl., has recently finalized a series of deals for the crime drama “Sherlock & Daughter,” featuring acclaimed actor David Thewlis, Blu Hunt, and Dougray Scott. The show, produced by Starlings Television Distribution in collaboration with Albion Television, The CW, and Warner Bros. Discovery, received a nomination for best global fiction series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
This fresh take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective has captivated audiences in the United States and Australia. It quickly became the top-rated series on The CW Network and the second most-watched series on The CW streaming platform. Additionally, the show made a significant impact on HBO Max, climbing to the fourth spot within 48 hours of its release and maintaining a position in the top 10 ever since. In Australia, SBS experienced a notable 150% surge in total audience share for the initial four episodes.
The popularity of “Sherlock & Daughter” has extended to international markets, with Federation securing distribution deals with Sky Italia, Bell Media, RTS, Nova, Disney, Tivibu, and TV3 Group, among others. Discussions are currently ongoing for German-speaking territories, with representation by Palatin Media.
Notable presales include Warner Bros. Discovery in the UK and Ireland, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, RUV in Iceland, and Amedia in CIS countries.
The series follows Holmes as he tackles a perplexing case that seems insurmountable. Joined by Amelia Rojas, a young woman convinced she is his daughter, they embark on a journey to unravel the mystery surrounding her mother’s death. Directed by Bryn Higgins, the show stars Thewlis as Holmes, Hunt as Rojas, and Scott as Moriarty, with Brendan Foley as the creator, writer, and executive producer, and James Duff as the showrunner.
