After a slow start in the 2024 NFL season, Ladd McConkey heated up for the LA Chargers, becoming the go-to pass-catcher for Justin Herbert and carrying the team on his shoulders. As he gears up for his second season in the league, McConkey is emerging as one of the best options for teams in need of a WR2 with a WR1 ceiling.

According to Sportskeeda’s Fantasy Football WR Rankings, McConkey is ranked as WR8 and the 13th-best player in the league heading into the 2025 season. His strong partnership with Justin Herbert is expected to result in at least 100 targets this season, making him an attractive option for fantasy owners.

The Sportkeeda’s Who Should I Draft tool projects McConkey to accumulate 295.3 fantasy points in 2025, a significant improvement from his 2024 performance where he garnered 240.9 FPTS on ESPN Fantasy. With impressive stats of 82 receptions on 112 targets for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns last season, McConkey was ranked in the top 20 for reception yards, touchdowns, catch rate, yards per target, and yards per route run. His projections for this year include 101.31 receptions for 1,418.2 yards and 8.7 receiving touchdowns.

Heading into this season, McConkey is set to be the clear WR1 for the Chargers’ offense. With Quentin Johnson struggling to secure catches and Tre Harris potentially stepping up as a solid partner for McConkey, the addition of Tyler Conklin to the tight end room could provide Herbert with more passing options. However, McConkey is expected to remain the quarterback’s favorite target.

In terms of fantasy football, McConkey is a solid pick for a WR2 and could even perform as a WR1 if the top receivers are off the board by the end of the first few rounds. Despite being considered day-to-day for the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, there are no indications of a serious injury hindering McConkey’s performance in the upcoming season. Our fantasy analyzer even suggests that McConkey may outshine star wide receiver AJ Brown in fantasy points this year.

It’s unlikely that McConkey will fall past the second round in full-PPR leagues, and if he maintains his consistency, he could potentially be one of the top overachievers in the 2025 season. With his proven chemistry with Herbert and his expected role as the primary target in the Chargers’ offense, McConkey is a player worth considering in fantasy drafts this year.

In conclusion, Ladd McConkey’s impressive performance in 2024 and his promising outlook for the 2025 season make him a valuable asset for fantasy football teams. With his potential to deliver high fantasy points and his crucial role in the Chargers’ offense, McConkey is a reliable option for teams in need of a dynamic wide receiver.
