The 2024 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards have announced their winners, with Italian photographer Milko Marchetti taking the top prize for his photo of a red squirrel diving headfirst into a tree. This hilarious shot captures the moment perfectly and has earned Marchetti the overall victory in the competition. According to the organizers, Marchetti had been holding onto this gem for a couple of years before deciding to enter it this year, and it paid off in a big way.

In addition to Marchetti’s winning photo, there were several other category winners and highly commended images that stood out. Takashi Kubo’s photo of a beady-eyed “mafia boss,” Tapani Linnanmäki’s discombobulated eagle, and Jose Miguel Gallego Molina’s celebratory mantis all received recognition for their unique and humorous captures. The full gallery of finalists can be viewed on the competition’s website.

One of the standout images from the competition is Tapani Linnanmäki’s “Shake, ruffle, rattle, and roll,” which won the People’s Choice Award category. This photo captures a moment of pure joy and movement, showcasing the playful side of wildlife in a captivating way.

Other highly commended images include Leslie Mcleod’s “Hide and Seek,” Andy Rouse’s “Alright mate, back off. This is my bird,” Arvind Mohandas’s “The Contemplative Chimpanzee,” Sanjay Patil’s “The Rock Star,” and Artur Stankiewicz’s “I’m too sexy for my love.” Each of these photos brings a different perspective to the world of wildlife photography, highlighting the beauty and humor found in the animal kingdom.

Overall, the 2024 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards have once again showcased the talent and creativity of photographers from around the world. The winning images capture the essence of comedy in nature, reminding us to appreciate the lighter side of wildlife and the world around us.
