A Skokie man, Justin Abbott, has been charged with shooting a woman in Edgewater during a reported road rage incident on Monday morning. The 28-year-old Abbott was set to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago on Wednesday afternoon.
According to dispatch records, the victim called 911 around 9:05 a.m. to report that she had been shot in the shoulder near Sheridan Road and Ardmore Avenue. The woman, who was driving a white Ford Escape, stated that she got into an argument with a man at the Shell gas station located at 5701 North Broadway. During the altercation, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at her.
The injured woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition by paramedics. Shortly after the shooting, another 911 call was made by a woman claiming that her boyfriend had fired a shot at a woman who had struck their car and thrown bottles at them near the scene. Police officers met with the caller and her boyfriend in the 4800 block of North Marine Drive. The man was taken into custody in the 800 block of West Ainslie Street, and a firearm was recovered from his vehicle.
Justin Abbott is facing charges of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in connection with the incident.
CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the inaccurate information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. While the coverage area has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, the mission of CWBChicago remains the same: to deliver original public safety reporting with comprehensive context and detail that surpasses mainstream media outlets.
