A Wisconsin woman, Morgan Geyser, who was involved in a gruesome incident where she almost killed her sixth-grade classmate in an attempt to please the fictional horror character Slender Man, has recently faced legal issues regarding her release privileges. Despite being granted release from a state psychiatric hospital after seven years of confinement, Geyser’s actions led to the state’s attempt to revoke her privileges.

The state Department of Health Services expressed concerns about Geyser’s trustworthiness, especially after she cut off her GPS monitor and fled the state with a companion. They were apprehended at a truck stop near Chicago, leading to the state’s petition to revoke her release privileges. Geyser’s attorney confirmed that she will not fight the petition, potentially resulting in her return to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

In 2014, Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park where Geyser stabbed her multiple times, narrowly missing her heart. The motive behind the attack was to impress Slender Man, a fictional character, as claimed by the girls during investigations. Both Geyser and Weier were committed to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, with Geyser receiving a 40-year sentence.

The incident shed light on the influence of online fictional characters like Slender Man, created by Eric Knudsen in 2009. The character gained popularity through various media, including video games and a 2018 movie. Geyser’s decision to flee and subsequent legal battles serve as a reminder of the consequences of actions inspired by fictional entities.
