Apple TV+ is gearing up for the release of its new crime drama series “Smoke,” starring and executive produced by Taron Egerton. The streaming platform recently dropped a new trailer for the show, which is set to premiere globally on Apple TV+ on June 27 with the first two episodes.
“Smoke,” created and written by Dennis Lehane and inspired by true events, follows arson investigator Dave Gudsen, played by Egerton, who reluctantly partners with police detective Michelle Calderone, portrayed by Jurnee Smollett. Together, they race against time to stop two arsonists, leading to a web of secrets and suspicions. The star-studded cast also includes Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo. The series’ main title was written and performed by Thom Yorke and is already available on various streaming platforms.
“Smoke” is a production of Apple Studios, with Lehane serving as creator, writer, and executive producer. Egerton also executive produces alongside Richard Plepler for EDEN Productions, and Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin for Imperative Entertainment. Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jane Bartelme are also executive producers on the show.
Inspired by the “Firebug” podcast from truth.media, “Smoke” is executive produced by Kary Antholis for Crime Story Media, LLC, and Marc Smerling for Truth Podcasting Corp. Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay are among the directors of the series.
Fans can catch new episodes of “Smoke” every Friday, with the series set to run through August 15.
In other TV news, the season seven premiere of “The Chi” drew a record-breaking 2 million viewers in multi-platform viewing, making it the most-streamed premiere in the show’s history, according to Paramount. Created and executive-produced by Lena Waithe, the series chronicles the lives of a community on the South Side of Chicago.
Under Waithe’s production company Hillman Grad, co-showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronal serve as executive producers, alongside Common. Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuywia, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, Naomi Funabashi, and Rishi Rajani are also on board as executive producers. Directors Deondray Goosfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield have helmed several episodes in season seven.
“The Chi” releases new episodes weekly, streaming on Paramount+ every Friday and airing on Showtime on Sundays.
