The highly anticipated “Snowfall” spinoff has officially been given the green light at FX. Fans of the original series can look forward to seeing familiar faces like Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprise their roles, alongside new additions Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III. The spinoff, which was initially ordered to pilot in March, is set in ’90s Los Angeles following the events of the original show.

The official logline for the untitled drama teases an exciting storyline, stating, “Set in ‘90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream — while gang wars erupt and record labels move to exploit hip hop culture for their own gain.”

Renowned writer and executive producer Malcolm Spellman will lead the creative team, with “Snowfall” veterans Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson also on board as executive producers. FX Productions will serve as the studio for the new series.

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution. We worked with Malcolm Spellman on the documentary series ‘Hip Hop Uncovered’ and he has encyclopedic knowledge of this material. This is a breakout starring role for Gail Bean and, as always, Isaiah John is terrific along with the ensemble cast. Snowfall was one of the most successful FX dramas ever and we’re excited that Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme and other veterans of the Snowfall creative team are on board.”

“Snowfall,” originally created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, delved into the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA through the eyes of various characters. The show, which aired for six seasons on FX between 2017 and 2023, garnered a large fan following and critical acclaim.

Fans can expect the spinoff to continue the legacy of “Snowfall” while exploring new and exciting storylines in the vibrant world of ’90s Los Angeles. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated series.
