Netflix has announced that they will be producing a live-action series adaptation of the immensely popular webtoon “Solo Leveling,” with Byeon Woo-seok set to star as Sung Jinwoo, the protagonist of the series.
Originally a web novel by Chugong in 2016, “Solo Leveling” has since become a global phenomenon with 14.3 billion cumulative views worldwide. The webtoon adaptation, created by h-goon with art by Dubu, has been a massive success on KakaoPage, consistently ranking as the platform’s No. 1 web novel and webtoon.
The recent anime adaptation of “Solo Leveling” also made history by sweeping nine major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year and Best Action.
The story of “Solo Leveling” follows Sung Jinwoo, an E-rank Hunter in a world where supernatural Gates have opened, releasing dangerous creatures. After a near-death experience, Jinwoo gains incredible leveling abilities, transforming him from the weakest Hunter into humanity’s unexpected savior against the escalating threats.
Byeon Woo-seok, known for his roles in “20th Century Girl” and “Lovely Runner,” will be taking on the role of Sung Jinwoo in the series. The project will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, known for their work on films like “Ashfall” and “Castaway on the Moon.”
Netflix will be partnering with Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures for the production of the series. Additionally, global music superstar J Balvin will be making his anime voice acting debut in Crunchyroll and Aniplex’s “Solo Leveling Season 2 – Arise From the Shadow.”
Fans of the webtoon and anime can look forward to seeing their favorite characters come to life in this highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Solo Leveling.”
