A devastating wildfire broke out in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina, spanning a massive 2,059 acres and threatening hundreds of homes. The blaze, known as the Convington Drive Fire, was allegedly sparked by Alexandra Bialousow, a 40-year-old woman who was arrested for her role in the incident.

According to reports from the South Carolina Forestry Commission, Bialousow was seen intentionally starting a fire in a backyard fire pit near a tree line within the Convington Lakes Subdivision in Carolina Forest on March 1. She was accused of failing to take necessary precautions to prevent the fire from spreading, leading to its rapid escalation and the subsequent evacuation orders issued for several neighborhoods across the Grand Strand.

The fire quickly engulfed the area, turning the sky an ominous shade of orange as smoke billowed uncontrollably. The South Carolina National Guard deployed Black Hawk helicopters to assist in combating the blaze, and a state of emergency was declared to aid in the firefighting efforts.

Fortunately, no homes or structures were destroyed, and there were no reported injuries or fatalities as a result of the fire. As of Friday, the inferno was 55% contained, with local, state, and regional fire departments working diligently to extinguish the remaining flames.

Bialousow was charged with negligently allowing the fire to spread to the property of others and starting a fire in woodlands without taking proper precautions. She was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and posted a $15,000 bond the following day.

The community is grateful for the swift response of emergency services and the dedication of firefighters in containing the blaze and preventing further damage. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the potential consequences of negligence in handling outdoor fires.
