Amore Cine, a Madrid-based production company led by Paz Lázaro, and Basque producer Txintxua Films have come on board Quijote Films’ latest project, the psychological drama “Morir de Pie” (“To Die on Your Feet”) directed by María Paz Gonzalez. This collaboration marks a significant step in the growth of the Basque film industry, with Argentina’s Gema Films also joining the production team earlier this year.
The announcement of this new partnership was made at the Iberseries & Platino Industria event in Madrid, highlighting the increasing collaboration between filmmakers from Spain and Latin America. The attractive incentives and subsidies offered by Spain, including up to 70% tax credits in the Basque Country, have made it a desirable destination for international producers. Txintxua Films, known for the success of the series “Intimacy” on Netflix, has become a key player in this growing industry.
“Morir de Pie” follows the story of Cruz, an actress who works as a simulated patient for medical students. One night, she witnesses a body falling while at the gym in her building, but instead of helping, she continues her workout. This incident leads to a police investigation, forcing Cruz to confront her emotional numbness and embark on a journey to rediscover her humanity.
Paz Lazaro expressed her excitement about joining forces with Latin American partners and supporting female directors with unique voices. She praised the film for its exploration of relevant themes such as the impact of artificial intelligence on medicine and the dehumanization of healthcare processes, all delivered with warmth, humor, and a charismatic touch.
Giancarlo Nasi of Quijote Films also shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the attention that “Morir de Pie” has received at various industry events. He emphasized the creative potential of the Chilean-Spanish partnership and the universal appeal of the film’s themes and characters.
In addition to “Morir de Pie,” Quijote Films and Amore Cine are working on another project titled “Ofelia” by Juan Pablo Félix, which is currently in development. This ongoing partnership showcases the commitment of both companies to supporting innovative storytelling and diverse voices in the film industry.
As the production of “Morir de Pie” continues to progress, the collaboration between Amore Cine, Txintxua Films, and Quijote Films promises to deliver a thought-provoking and entertaining cinematic experience. With a talented team behind the project and a compelling story at its core, the film is poised to make a significant impact on audiences worldwide.
