The highly anticipated Spanish Screenings on Tour is set to make a grand return to Buenos Aires’ Ventana Sur on Dec. 4, marking its 4th edition. Organized by the prestigious Málaga Film Festival, this event has become a key platform for promoting Spanish cinema and exploring various aspects of the international film industry.
The event will kick off with a showcase of the winners from the Malaga Festival’s Hack Malaga, where up-and-coming content creators will present their innovative projects utilizing the latest technologies in the audiovisual field. Following this, attendees can look forward to screenings of clips from the upcoming 2026 lineups from top Spanish movie sales companies such as Latido Films, Filmax, and Film Factory, among others.
A highlight of the event will be a session focusing on successful film production strategies, featuring producer María Luisa Gutiérrez of Bowfinger Intl. Pictures. Gutiérrez, along with renowned actor-producer-director Santiago Segura, will delve into the “Bowfinger Method” of creating films that not only attract funding but also deliver at the box office. The discussion will be moderated by Variety International Features Editor John Hopewell.
Bowfinger Intl. Pictures boasts a diverse catalog of titles, including hit franchises like “Torrente” and “Father There is Only One,” as well as critically acclaimed films like “Undercover,” directed by Arantxa Echevarría. The session will also explore successful Argentina-Spain co-productions, including the highest-grossing local films in Argentina and Mexico.
Additionally, two workshops will delve into the importance of intellectual property (IP) protection and development, led by industry experts Francisco Menéndez and Sydney Borjas. These workshops will analyze case studies and provide valuable insights for filmmakers and producers.
Supported by the Malaga Film Festival, the Spanish government, and other key industry players, Spanish Screenings on Tour will culminate in the announcement of projects at the 2026 Málaga Fund & Co-Production Event (MAFF). This event, which focuses on collaborations between Latin America, Spain, and Portugal, has become a cornerstone of the Málaga Festival.
Ventana Sur, co-organized by Cannes Marché du Film, INCAA, and ACAU, will run from Dec. 1-5, showcasing the best of Latin American cinema. With a lineup of exciting screenings, insightful discussions, and networking opportunities, Spanish Screenings on Tour promises to be a must-attend event for industry professionals and film enthusiasts alike.
