Special Counsel David Weiss to Release Final Report on Hunter Biden Investigation
Special Counsel David Weiss is expected to release his final report on his years-long investigation into Hunter Biden as soon as next week, Fox News has learned.
Hunter Biden was found guilty of three felony firearm offenses and federal tax crimes related to unpaid taxes amounting to at least $1.4 million.
Despite facing up to 17 years in prison, Hunter Biden entered a surprise guilty plea before his scheduled sentencing on Dec. 16. However, President Joe Biden pardoned him on all charges in December.
The federal investigation into Hunter Biden began in November 2018, with whistleblowers from the IRS, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, later alleging political influence in the probe led by Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
After public testimonies by Shapley and Ziegler, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss as special counsel to continue the investigation, resulting in federal charges against Hunter Biden in Delaware and California.
Weiss is expected to release his final report soon, as per Justice Department regulations, with a commitment from Garland to make the findings public.
President Biden’s Controversial Pardon
President Biden’s decision to pardon his son came after months of promising not to interfere with the Justice Department’s decisions. The blanket pardon covers any offenses committed by Hunter Biden from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 1, 2024.
In a statement, President Biden defended his decision, citing unfair prosecution and attacks on his son, who has maintained sobriety for over five years. He expressed hope that Americans would understand the difficult choice he made as a father and president.
The Justice Department and Special Counsel Weiss’ office declined to comment on the developments.
