Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been dealt a major blow ahead of IPL 2026 as pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the tournament. The right-arm fast bowler sustained a knee injury during a warm-up match against South Africa before the T20 World Cup 2026 and was subsequently replaced by Mohammed Siraj in the ICC event.
According to a report in The Times of India, Rana underwent surgery in Mumbai on February 9 but is unlikely to recover in time to take part in IPL 2026. The 24-year-old was a crucial member of the KKR squad that clinched the IPL title in 2024, picking up 19 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 20.15.
KKR are yet to decide on a replacement for Rana and are looking at players like Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi to step up and fill the void left by the injured pacer.
Rana’s journey to the Indian team was a rapid one, with doubts initially raised over his selection in all three formats. However, the youngster has made a mark for himself, especially in the limited-overs formats. In ODIs, he has taken 26 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 27.38, with a best of 4-39. He has also contributed with the bat, scoring 124 runs at a strike rate of 121.56.
In T20Is, Rana has claimed nine wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 10.60. His Test career is still in its early stages, with the fast bowler featuring in just two matches and picking up four wickets at an average of 50.75.
Rana made his IPL debut for KKR in the 2022 season and has played a total of 34 matches for the franchise. He has amassed 40 wickets at an average of 25.72 and an economy rate of 9.51. In the 2025 season, he picked up 15 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 29.86.
As KKR grapple with the absence of Rana in IPL 2026, the franchise will be hoping for a swift recovery for the talented pacer. With a promising career ahead of him, Rana will be eager to return to action and continue making a mark in the world of cricket.
