Political parties always strive to present their best image at conferences, but it can be challenging to hide internal disagreements.

However, National’s Mainland Regional Conference in Dunedin was a different story. Delegates appeared to be in high spirits throughout the event, with the only complaint being that it coincided with the start of duck-shooting season.

Despite this minor inconvenience, the atmosphere at the conference was far more positive than in previous years. The reception for party leader Christopher Luxon and Finance Minister Nicola Willis was warm, a stark contrast to the lukewarm response Luxon received three years prior.

In his address, Luxon emphasized the government’s achievements in reversing harmful policies and implementing ambitious reforms. He highlighted the party’s focus on rebuilding the economy, increasing incomes, and reducing the cost of living.

Luxon’s speech was met with enthusiasm from delegates, who were particularly pleased with the announcement of financial literacy being added to the school curriculum.

Overall, the conference was a success, with party members expressing optimism and support for National’s agenda.
