Stephen A. Smith has expressed interest in running for President of the United States, citing a lack of leadership in the country as his motivation. However, one significant hurdle stands in his way – finances.
TMZ Sports caught up with the ESPN personality at Kenny Smith’s The FlyHouse All-Star Bash in Los Angeles, where he candidly remarked, “The country sucks.”
“I believe the country is in dire need of a different kind of leadership. The current leadership is inadequate, and no one is stepping up to provide the necessary guidance. While I don’t aspire to be a politician, the prospect of confronting these politicians on a debate stage and holding them accountable for their actions excites me,” Smith stated emphatically.
When asked what it would take for him to seriously consider a presidential run, the 58-year-old asserted, “I need to have my finances in order.”
“My financial stability is crucial. As far as I know, I would have to make significant sacrifices to pursue this path,” he added.
It’s worth noting that Smith inked a lucrative 5-year, $100 million deal with ESPN last year.
Stephen A. Smith reiterates his desire to challenge the current political establishment and engage in debates to address the division and issues plaguing the nation.
“My primary goal is to engage in discussions and debates with politicians whom I believe have failed the nation and caused division among us. This is where my passion lies. However, I won’t deny that the temptation to pursue the presidency would be strong if success were guaranteed,” Smith admitted.
A final decision on Stephen A. Smith’s potential presidential bid is not expected until 2027, leaving the public in anticipation.
For now, we eagerly await further developments.
