Steve Bannon is reportedly laying the groundwork for a potential run in the 2028 presidential election, as Axios reported over the weekend.
Although the first-term Trump White House chief strategist is not believed to be genuinely interested in running for president, sources suggest that Bannon may be using a potential campaign as a tactic to push GOP candidates to fully adopt his hard-line “America First” agenda.
According to NPR, Bannon, a convicted fraudster, has already started looking for potential campaign staff and is considering forming a political action committee.
If Bannon decides to run, it is likely that his campaign will be primarily managed from his podcast studio, according to associates. One Bannon ally even suggested to Axios that “when Trump doesn’t end up running, he’ll reluctantly say he must carry the mantle.”
Despite these reports, Bannon dismissed the idea as “bullshit” and stated that his focus is on securing an unconstitutional third term for President Donald Trump.
Previously, Bannon has claimed that there are “different alternatives to make sure” Trump “is on the ballot, and if he’s on the ballot, he’ll win,” despite Trump himself indicating that he may not pursue another run for the presidency.
